What is the role and structure of a car injector?

Maintenance

I think that carburetor fuel setting was a familiar sight in cars about 40 years ago, but it has disappeared in recent cars.

It is largely due to the spread of injectors. Therefore, this time we will introduce the role and structure of the injector.

Do you understand? The role and structure of the injector

Injector role

An injector is a part that injects fuel. The name fuel injector is common, and the injector is short for it. As you know, the engine that produces the power to move the car is the spark plug that ignites the fuel-air mixture in the combustion chamber inside the engine. The injector plays the role of delivering this fuel mixture.

Fuel is ejected from the valve at the tip of the injector, which applies pressure to the fuel inside the injector, and the valve repeatedly opens and closes Is able to squirt fuel. The valve at the tip of this injector opens and closes in response to electronic signals.

Regarding the number of injectors used for each engine, the one called port injection type uses one injector per cylinder, and the one called dual injector uses two injectors per cylinder. By the way, the direct injection type that injects fuel directly into the cylinder is also designed to use one injector per cylinder.

Type and structure of injector

Injecting fuel is the main role of the injector, but there are also types of injectors, which are divided into two types: solenoid fuel injectors and piezo fuel injectors.

Solenoid injector

Solenoid injector is an injector that uses an electromagnet to open and close the valve to inject fuel. When the coil inside the injector called the solenoid coil is energized and magnetized, the plunger core is drawn to the coil.

As a result, the needle at the end of the plunger that closed the end of the valve body is pulled together with the plunger, and fuel is injected from the gap filled by the needle. Solenoid injectors are often used in gasoline engines.

Piezo injector

The piezo injector is an injector that uses a piezo element to inject fuel. The role of the piezo element in the piezo injector is to open and close the control valve in the amplification module.

The needle is located at the tip of the injector in the same way as a solenoid injector, but in the case of a piezo injector, the valve is opened and closed using the difference in fuel pressure between the needle tip and the rear end.

There are many cases of adoption in diesel engines. Made with higher accuracy than solenoid injectors.

Injector replacement time

The injector has no fixed replacement time.

Therefore, there is no need to replace if there is no problem. If a problem such as a decrease in engine output, torque, or engine stall occurs, there may be a problem with the injector.

If you experience such a phenomenon while driving a car, keep in mind that there is a possibility of an injector.
